History of German Hashing and the Nash Hash

Derived from History of the Hash House Harriers in Germany by Hazukashii

Hashing made its debut in Germany in the summer of 1971 in Lübbecke, between Osnabrück and Hannover. The Lübbecke H3 was founded by Richard "Mountain Rescue" McAllister, who started hashing in Brunei in 1963. The hash was made up of members of British 2nd Division Headquarters. The regularly ran in the Teutebergerwald until the 1980's when the base closed. According to the founder, "German law would not allow us to use the paper trails we were used to in the Far East ...Trails were laid in sawdust, ...readily available at no cost to the Hash from local woodcutters".
